Any suggestions for removing limescale from the boats fresh water system?

I recently removed my fresh water level sender and one of the metal prongs was coated in scale. I'm concerned that the hot water tank maybe suffering a similar fate and wondered if there was a treatment to clear/prevent it.

There are different kinds of limescale but I am having 100% success with a polyphosphate crystal cartridge and I have added a 5 micron pre-filter cartridge while I was about it. We no longer get any scale in the kettle.

We had been having to replace the immersion heater every few months and I have my fingers crossed....we fitted the new cartridges in August.

See.... YBW thread on scale and the effect on hot water systems

I suspect the scale on the level sensor may be the result of electrolysis due to a small current flowing between the electrodes. I cannot say for sure though without knowing the basis on which your level sensor works.

However with a hard water supply your hot water system is liable to scaling just as it would at home. The low level polyphosphate treatment, much discussed in the thread Lemain has provided a link to, should prevent it.

Citric acid
