three quick things:

First, an announcement: we have moved to Limehouse and taken a residential berth. Very nice.

Second, bit of news: despite the talk of Limehouse going down the annual residential contract route - they do def still accept visitors and, in fact, are improving the facilities for visitors and will be putting in new pontoons. However, I think it's very shallow in the spot where they intend to do this. They have apparently been dredging the marina over the past year, so maybe this will improve. When we came in yesterday, I had to move out of the way of a canal boat coming round the corner and my es read only 2.1m.

Third: god bless bow-thrusters.

Limehouse should allow visiting boats to rafting-up, the place in underutilised

There are some old photos somewhere of it being ram packed with heavily laden narrowboats, so you could walk over them from one side to the other.

Chatting Lil, you could walk/cycle up the towpath to Hackney and have a look at the squatting narrowboat community, it's an eye opener after the world of yachts!

2.1m, loadsa depth - I don't start worrying until it reads 1.0 and even then I've still got 3" under the keels! :D

ha! well I am still getting used to having nearly 2m of draft and that my es shows real depth. Black Magic's was calibrated to show water under keel, so I would happy sail about with a reading of 0.5. In Limehouse I saw 2.1m before it dawned on me what that meant for me now! Big eeek.

Did I put in total depth? Pretty sure I put an offset in, as I measured the keel to transducer while it was still on the hard. Throw a leadline over the side and check.

that's nothing. when I were a lass, me and MoodySabre took a vessel overland via Havengore with 0m showing for a least a mile! How relieved we were to see 0.1m.

Thou 'ad it easy lass, we had to drag a fully laden coal lighter overland from Ipswich to Harwich, eat t' coal, cut up lighter and weld it int' 'ouseboat, drag that t' Woodbridge, sell it t' fancy pants big wig f' £450,000 and retire on t' proceeds. Every day before breakfast lass, that's work.

Why is this something to brag about?

In the not too distant future, I hope to be sailing where the water is blue and the echo sounder reads double digits.

what - like 1.1 meters under the keel? I've heard tell of such things but never from reliable witnesses.

Part of the reply I received when trying to make a club booking for later in the year

"I am writing to inform you that sadly, Limehouse Marina will no longer be able to cater for club bookings involving a large number of vessels. Individual booking will still be accepted.

BWML intend to utilise all the berths (starting in March 2014) within the old marina as annual residential/leisure berths.

We will retain the existing long visitor pontoon "

I was told that if we ring up a few days in advance they may fit in one or two boats by hot bunking. Not a lot of good when planning your holidays though.
