Went down to Chatham today, stopped at Limehouse for lunch.
Every time I stop there it excels for friendly service. And for a lunch stop they don't charge.
There's a Ramsey pub on the corner or turn left (downstream) on foot there are some supurb traditional pubs.
Chatham's an excellent marina too.

Try to get across the river to Upper Upnor, two good pubs,The Kings Arms(Food) and The Tudor Rose (very olde untarted up boozer).Lower Upnor is OK ish with two more pubs and river views and please do not sing loudly on your way home late at night as it annoys the residents.
Also Upnor Castle is woth a visit. The fly in the ointment is that you will have to get a cab as you are not allowed to walk through the tunnel under the river. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Fred, perhaps you could run a ferry service to bolster your "keep the outdrives running" charity.

Charon (a good Greek skipper) charges an Obolus to pay for the ride across.
But as the Greeks don't use Drachma anymore you will have to get the equiv. in Euros. If its any help an Obulus was 1 sixth of a drachma.
