Having had probably the worst meal and service ever in the lightship at Haslar last year I swore I would not go back.

However did I read that it has changed hands and is OK now?

A completely different experience.

We ate there a couple of weeks ago and had an excellent meal. The lady running the Lightship now has had considerable experience in and around the area running a number of establishments. I'm going to try and arrange a beer and a natter there in the not too distant future.

When we ate it wasn't even the main chef !!

I would strongly recommend giving it a try. A great location that has sadly been neglected for a long time up to now.

Henry :)

Totally agree with Henry's comment above - I went there on Monday - Even before you have gone through the main door - The place now smells fresh and clean and inviting.
All staff are very attentive and courteous making you feel very welcome.
I had a Pork Belly with loads of really nicely freshly cooked vegetables - orange juice and coffee all for £14.62

Both the Food and Service is spot on and IMHO gives Hardy's a very good run for there money.
A very good friend of mine Mr Ukulele who a lot of you met last year @ ECM said to me the other day we have our lightship back which mean't a lot to me being a relative new berth-holder here.

Colin - I am trying to treat my body like a temple after years off abuse - Hopefully I will be fit enough soon to sample henry's abundance of new recipe pork pies :D
Are you and H going to the BMYS this weekend btw - Be good to catch up soon as it's been a while :encouragement:

I'm taking part this time, we're catching the ferry as we're bringing some of Helens clients over. It's a 7 mile walk from Ventnor. Don't suppose you know the name of that beach cafe to the West of Yarmouth do you? I think it's inbetween Fort Victoria and the Grange.

Is it inside the marina? How do you get access through the gate?

It is inside the marina. I don't know for sure how you get in if you don't have a boat but my guess is you press the buzzer on the intercom and tell security you want to go to the lightship. There are no gates codes, everyone is let in by the marina staff and they have a camera on the gate to check you are not an oik or a chav.

yep totally agreed, been there a few times now, including that time with you and Henry. Last time I couldn't get in as word is getting around.
