We plan to end this season around Corsica/ Sardinia and want to take our boat out from about mid October/ over Winter while we return to the UK. The boat is a Lagoon 38 catamaran with 21' 5''(6.5m) beam.
Please can anybody suggest a reasonably protected, secure marina/ yard with a sufficiently wide travel hoist or slipway/tractor system to get us out, anywhere around Corsica/ Sardinia or slightly further afield?
Many thanks.

This can be problemattical I'm afraid as I know only too well.
Most 7mtr wide travelhoists are straddling 6mtr wide docks!!
You may have to go somewhere either with or prepared to bring in a large crane.
Or carry on to Preveza marine who will haul you with their tractor/trailer which has no width limit.
There are also two yards in Monfalcone who can do it but that's too far I know!
I did leave Aqua Blue in Campoloro afloat for two winters and a fellow skipper with a large multi used Solenzara. It's possible no doubt in one of the Sardinian commercial harbours but at what cost?

I can give you two possibles:

1. Macinaggio, to the north of Bastia. We were there a few weeks ago and we think we remember seeing a cat hauled out on the hard. They do seem to have reasonable sized fishing boats there, which presumably are hauled out from time to time. Telephone +33 495 354655, 9 - 12 am and 2 - 5 pm.

2. Castelsardo in north Sardinia. Bloc says they have a hauling slipway. Large fishing boats were on the hard in September. Phone 0039 79 470916. We like this place a lot - cheapest marina we found anywhere in the western Med. Harbourmaster speaks some English. About one hour by taxi from Porto Torres ferry.

The only other place where I'm sure you will get out is Portoferraio in Elba, ESAOM CESA s.p.a. 0039 565 916665. They handle very large vessels indeed (260 tonnes!). Good ferry service to the mainland, within walking distance.

Thank you both for your helpful responses, I will follow-up your suggestions. In the meantime, other ideas would be welcome.
At the London Boat Show, our co-owner was told that Marina di Arbatax on the east coast of Sardinia may be suitable but that marina has not responded to my emails.
Has anybody had personal experience of Arbatax and if so, could you please comment on their suitability for overwintering and lifting out facilities.
Thanks.

Second Castelsardo, been there nearly 2 years. Now have friends there who have a local busness and can do anything boatwise. Very friendly place, easy access from Stanstead, daily flights, early morning one has a bus connection to Castelsardo, expensive tho at least 5 euros!!!!
Good luck
Mike

I have lived on my catamaran around sardinia for ten years, always wintering in Arbatax. You will have no problem, if you need to know more contact.
