Lifting Bridge at Weymouth

I, too, am thinking about doing Poole to the West country this summer probably to Torquay. I see that members have recommended a stop in Weymouth so I think I will take that advice.

I see there is a lifting bridge there before you get to the marina. I guess my air draught is about 2.5m, I have never measured it. Can anyone tell me will I get under the bridge without it being lifted at some point in the tidal cycle? Or even if I plan my arrival for low tide will I still have to wait for it to lift?

Just raft up on the quay like most folks. Much more sociable, and has power and water - plus you can get fuel by bowser.

The almanac claims 2.6m clearance MHWS if you're set on the marina though. Check that though /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Edit: To give you some idea, this is looking from seaward of the bridge as we left from teh marina (which we've stayed in only once, normally we do the quay - but the M-in-L with us)

Agree with rickp. The harbour is a much more sociable place to moor. OK, you will probably have to raft up and mess around with shore lines but that's part of the fun. The marina has always seemed a bit out of the way to us

We spent 6 days last year in the Marina due to bad weather, the visitors area is right at the back near the brige and you get a lot of drunks in the evening at weekends, and one boat had a very messy Kebab on his transom one sunday morning... My suggestion would be the Town Quay...

We always do the quay... much closer to things and more fun/sociable BUT...

...did put the boat into the marina for a week when weather bound there on my way back from the Solent to Plymouth. Better security and shelter. I wouldn't leave a boat unattended on the quay with easy public access.
