Boat was booked in to be lifted out for the winter today /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif and - because I am a tight fisted git - I took the day off work to bring her downriver to the yard to be lifted, thus saving a towing fee of about 30 quid.

Up at the crack of dawn, so as to ensure that I am in situ by about 9.00 am. As I come alongside at the yard, one of the guys comes over and says "Ah. Your boat's coming out on Monday now; didn't anybody tell you"?

No, they effing well didn't and I can't take another day off work so, after a bit of a discussion, it's agreed (rather grudgingly) that I can leave her moored up at the yard over the weekend and they will lift her on Monday. This is a pain, because I'll have to go down again next weekend to get all the cushions and other gear off her (cos I can't lug it all across the boat I'm tied up to, in order to get it ashore). Also, I like to be around when they take her out, to have a good look for tell tale signs of trouble, such as water pouring out of the hull, and the like.

I am a mild mannered man, on the whole, but I despair at the appalling level of customer service that seems to think it is OK to pull stunts like this, and which appears to be par for the course in the British leisure marine industry.

Or perhaps I'm just grumpy because the boat's coming out..........

annual lift

Well i would be pissed off too! I agree its good to be around when the boat is lifted. I would rebook it to suit you (not them).

In fact I now make a point of being around when any work is done now so that you can see the 'real' picture. My last service was an education - 100% pleased I was there .

I've found that they really appreciate it if you offer advice as well. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Sounds familiar... have had phone calls at 8am saying "okay if we lift 'er now mate rather than this afternoon, oh and can you bring 'er round from the berth, now" as well as "Yer boats back in the water mate. Yes, I know it's a day early but can you'move her off the waiting pontoon this afternoon."

Why do we put up with it!! /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I have pointed out, to the yard, that they'd better lift her on Monday, 'cos the insurers specify that she's out of the water from 1st November - 31st March, and she is now their responsibility.

I expect I'll feel better on 1st April - as long as they put her in when they say they will: they put her in a couple of days early this year and charged me for moving her up to her mooring because I wasn't around to do it myself.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrr...............

And you paid? They would have had short shrift from me.

I've had my boat lifted today and all I can say is the level of service was top notch!

They asked what I wanted confirmed it with me as they did it and as she was put into the shed they introduced me to the other boat owners that were already in there.

Where is this,...............not saying you'll all want to come and the price will go up /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I have to say that this is the first time I have felt that I have got service above what I expect from a marina !!!!!

Tom.

[/ QUOTE ] No, I didn't, but it was part of a lengthier saga involving jobs not done over the winter and incorrectly re-connected exhaust hoses. Let's just say that they weren't my favourite people after that, and today's little larkabout hasn't exactly increased my affection for them.

Oh well; I've got a few months to get over it before the boat goes back in. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I see Barbara have got her gready little mits on you now. It's all done with slight of hand and mirrors.

But whats your exit stratagy ???

Now if you can work out how Stone Henge was built, maybe you can extract Little Ship from the shed equally as painlessly
Getting into the shed is one thing.

Getting out is quite another!!!!......... /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

aaah they are not that bad, just a bit slow, and they have changed their under manager to Barbara, who was a great guy. It is though very, very friendly, and by the time you leave you will know everyone.

There was nowt friendly about the infamous barbara when she accosted me in the shop. She was more like a white shark. I found a fender so old that the price ticket had faded and totally iledgable. £36 she said, dead confident. But ang on said I, it's much smaller that this one for twenty quid!! No it's not says Barbara, but anyway this one is of far superiour quality. Bloody crook. So I said, well give us a couple of the twenty quid ones then! Barbara took a steely look at me. I knew I was going to loose out, So she kept the barge there four months whilst they painted the bottom. And charged the whole time for storage!! Aint the internet wicked.. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
