Hi,

I'm after suggestions for best / cheapest place to lift out (need 25t crane) and store 14m yacht for the Winter 2014 Portugal / N.Spain.

I may consider leaving her afloat if the price is right.

Please let me know all possibilities so I can consider my options

Mant Thanks, appreciated

Pete

PS I have also put this on Liveaboard to gain wider audience.

Certainly the cheapest would probably be Povoa de Varzim,a friendly place ,afloat or hard standing , just north of Oporto on the Portuguese coast ,but we opted for Nave Pegos in Faro ,Algarve which was the nicer option if not for anything other than superb winter weather and secure hard standing, no afloat facilities there.

Portugal probably more facilities for yachts than Northern Spain ?

Parvoa de vazim is indeed cheap but personally I would not for one minute consider leaving a boat there in the water over winter, the yard would be ok if you can get the boat lashed down properly , if you plan on remaining aboard while out it's a gravel yard and not very clean.

Another cheap option would be Tagus boat yard up the river opposite Lisbon again gravel yard and wouldn't be great if staying on board , but I'd say much safer weather wise than parvoa (as nice as they are)

There are good deals to be had in Southern portugal if you want to travel further south , portimao yard was immaculate and cleaned daily , Lagos another good option.

The Rias of Galicia have some good options, both afloat and ashore. See http://www.jimbsail.info/tidal-europe/galicia. Descriptions of many of the yards and marinas on that page also have links leading to their web sites. Ares, Villa-Garcia, A Coruna, and Bayona all have good yards, and the last two are great cities for enjoying life during the fit-out and lay-up periods. Good flight connections through Santiago de Compostela, connected by rail to some of those places. Snags - winters can be wet there.

Further south, Porto and Lisboa have options both afloat and ashore. Again, great cities to enjoy, well connected by air to the rest of Europe. The "West Portugal" page on my site gives the detail. Not as wet as Galicia.

Warmth and some winter sun comes in Southern Portugal. But the price goes up.

We also use Nave Pegos for haul out. Alternatives there for cats are mud berth or, for keel boats, there are moorings for rent at (IIRC) around 100 euro p.m. in the pool just off Faro.
