Hi,

Anyone know of any winter deals on yard work on the Costa del Sol?

Duquesa Boatyard are quoting 700 euros +IVA for a lift out, jet wash, polish and relaunch and wondered if I could get it done any cheaper?

Cheers

Ant

Marina Alcaidesa are good at lift out and Antifoul....but DO NOT use the Elias Blanco. Not unless you want your new prop fitting on with Epoxy! Also used Duquessa and Sotogrande very happy with service all round though Sotogrande very expensive in comparison. Currently having new boat lifted at Benalmadena as need Volvo work and happy so far.

Cheers

Ooerrr, surprised you had a problem there, Ive used them a few times, no problem at all, in fact was in there this morning ordering an exhaust muffler, speedy delivery, good price. Did you speak to El Jeffe, seems a reasonable bloke. Chica in office is very nice. Both speak good English. Ooops sounds like an advert. No connection....

Yes thanks - for your limited understanding - I would propose that, if the OP wishes to save money, he proceeds up the coast to Hyeres from where he now is.

The question is about the Costa Del Sol, the place you say you know nothing about. What has anywhere else on the planet got to do with it?? Sheesh.....

Believe me...I had huge problems. Cost me €1000s because of incorrect diagnosis, incorrect repair work and parts paid for not used! This was in Sept/Oct last year. The Yard were great....Elias shocking, unprofessional and made the boat downright dangerous! Nearly lost me my boat sale as well.....would use Yard but not Touch Elias. If I needed help again would get boat lifted and moved by road to a proper repair centre, hence why having current work in Benalmadena.

Sorry to hear about your problems there and many thanks for the tip. As you can imagine we get a lot of questions about the area so its good to know what works and what doesnt.

Cheers, CS

Bears out my impression of the Costa del Sol, to which I have been and would opine that it is the least desirable part of the Mediterranean.
Whilst I am aware that Cpnsensible probably has a vested interest in people using that area I would earnestly recommend forum users to get away from the area which is the most ugly and over-developed on the Med coasts (IMHO), the most expensive and has lots of incompetent (from my experience) tradespeople. Additionally the local junta will probably be becoming more grasping and bureaucracy more troublesome.
I would merely suggest moving up the coast to France, where there is, generally, a higher professional competence and (again in my experience) far lower berthing costs to be found.

Thanks for that. I have emailed both of your suggestions for a price. I also had someone suggest Smir for the work so will be in touch with them as well.

As for moving to France...I am working in Marbella so I am limited to the local area for now.

Hiya, Smir is not bad, lifted there a couple of times. The boatyard is run by Marina Marbella. Labour costs are relatively cheap but take your own materials, Maroc equivalent of vat is big.

Not much to do though in evenings, on site restaurant is bit pricey. I often go to tetouan but you wouldnt want to do that every night!

To be absolutely clear, I have no vested interest in people using the Costa Del Sol.

Why on earth you would 'earnestly recommend forum users get away from the area' solely based on your own predjudices I dont know, especially when someone has specifically asked abot that place.

Look to your first post 'I dont know about the Costa Del Sol'. Well I am sure its not missing you either!!!!

We are clearly poles apart on this so Im certainly gonna let it lie. Oh, but I know a real cheap lift out in Venezuela.....:D

Charles,

You get good dealers and bad dealers everywhere in the world. Down here is no different. The Art is to find a good yard, a good dealer and decent tradespeople. That is why we are giving our opinion as we use them all the time.

I actually live and work in Gib so have no intention of moving to France. If I wanted the French Lifestyle I would move to Monaco....

No vested interest except for the fact I like it here!

One last thing. Just got my new Berthing Quotes from the CDS with Discounts from 25% to 53% so doubt France is Cheaper! Recession means bargain berthing down here...

Cheers
