Lift-in lift-out special offers?

We were unable to clean the hull this spring for obvious reasons. I read somewhere that there are occasional special rates for Lift-in / lift-out mid summer to allow a couple of days cleaning / antifouling.

As we're presently anchored off Newlyn, exploring the south coast until weather and Covid rules allow us on our planned trip to Scotland, is anyone aware of any special offers now or in the near future?

Thanks in advance

Have you thought of going to a drying harbour and scrubbing the hull and changing anodes at low tide? Much cheaper than any lift out and re-launch.

Find a nice sand bar, anchor at high water and wait for low water. Clean and replace anodes. The antifouling can wait.

I wonder how many modern boats will flood before they float off? Older designs with narrower sterns are more likely to get away with it.
Perhaps the modern, fat arsed, twin wheeled ones might not, but I could never see the logic in those.

None I'd think. Designers do take a bit of responsibility for the knockdown condition, and the Recreational Craft Directive ought to catch it too, but don't forget that the displacement is reduced by between 15 and 25% by the keel's resting on terra firma anyway.

Yes, it's a single keel boat. We did have the chance to lean against a wall but I chickened out last summer.! I'm expecting a charge of around £380 for lift-out/ lift-in locally but read somewhere that boatyards sometimes do special mid summer offers for much less. Basically it was an offer where they had empty yards while people sailed, so offered a limited time (1 week?) ashore for antifouling.

Gosport boatyard do a special price on Friday-Monday at certain times of year.

A friend was peeved that the discount evaporates if you overstay - he was expecting to pay the daily rate when he found more jobs to do, but they charged him the day rate, plus the separate costs of lifting in and out again.

Otherwise a very good boatyard though, fair prices and very friendly staff.

I haven’t seen any ‘specials’ this year but Mylor Yacht Harbour have done something similar in the past so maybe worth a call. Falmouth Boat Construction offer ‘survey lifts’ (includes pressure washing) at £20 per metre plus VAT or £38.50 plus VAT for 2 days ashore.

That was cheap. I was quoted over £500 in Plymouth for a week ashore. Needless to say I will be finding another sandbank.

A friend of mine used Sealift in Gosport. They have a docking system which lifts your boat so that cleaning, anode changing, etc can be done. They may have other locations nearer to you. No idea what they charge. Might be worth a call.
