Hi,

We're considering a new (or secondhand) inflatable as tender/plaything. There's quite a price difference between PVC and Hypalon dinghies, as well as much more choice in PVC.

I wondered how the extra durability of Hypalon actually translated into lifespan. I mean, how long might a PVC dinghy actually last, assuming that when not in use its either indoors or under a cover to protect from sunlight? Assume a reasonable brand such as Zodiac or Valiant.

Our PVC ('Hypertext') Narwhal lasted 18 years. Eventually it was the adhesive which failed and not the fabric..

Have just invested in a replacement PVC Seago.

I bought a Suzumar a couple of years ago, to replace my aged Avon, that the other half said was to small. The Suzumar is dropping to bits slowly and I can see the Avon back on the davits before long.

We have a Westline and its eight years old. Kept inflated under a tarp in the summer, when not in use. Used every weekend and for our three week cruise.

In very good condition

Wetline?

Jez will be happy on how well Westlines last /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I reckon it must depend on how much you protect if from the sun. Some people fit covers for use in the season, to protect the plastic as well as covers in the winter. UV is the killer of almost all things plastic.
