Liferaft Transport

I have a Plastimo Ocean 6man valise liferaft that I want to transport from the UK to my boat in Greece (Olympic Marine). The nearest company to our home tells me that he can't take it because the gas bottle in the l'raft contravenes safety regs. Anyone got any experience or ideas?

This is certainly the case with lifejackets - had to discard bottles and buy new in Gran Canaria last year

Yes, hazardous goods. Just shipping some lifejackets to Greece by TNT but have to remove cylinders. Most airlines apparently allow cylinders without firing mechanism as hand baggage - hoping Easyjet do.

Might be able to do the same with a liferaft but you would have to take out the flares as well I expect and buy them and have it re-packed locally. Suspect however after all this hassle it is cheaper to buy out there.

if using the ferry / tunnel then watch out, they too have regulations about pressurised canisters and pyrotechnics

I used Peters and May for my four-man raft - air freight for collection at Athens airport cost approx £300 IIRC.
