Reading the recent thread of liferafts I have realised the error of my ways.

In recent years 1000's have lost their lives worldwide to flooding including a fair number in the UK while only a few have died from boating incidents where a liferaft would have saved their lives.

Hence while I have always agreed that it is sensible for boats to have a liferaft it should be immediately made compulsary for every home to have one.

Can I offer my sincere apologies to anyone that I have mislead by suggesting that Lifejackets, safety lines, crotchstraps, flares , mini parachute flares, whistle, waterproof handheld VHF, DSC VHF and Radar can be more important to your personal safety on a boat than a liferaft in your home.

I would appreciate advice as to whether they should also be obligatory in your car.

Oh very definately!.............I think they should be fitted to all shopping trollies too! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

They do say more people drown in cars than boats. I expect Volvo to be the first manufacturer to offer a liferaft as standard.

In my sons Volvo in the event of a crash the car telephone system immediately calls the emergency services and informs them of the cars location and how many airbags have been deployed thereby giving an indication of the severity of the crash.

It has not got a liferaft though - boy are they missing a trick!!

Judging by the number of shopping trolleys hauled out of this marina last time they dredged it I reckon you could be right Crusty. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have (oh how sad this is going to seem) tested some boaty items in our hot tub, flotation vest, snorkel (well my birthday was in December), waterproof camera, etc etc.

But after this thread I am sure a liferaft will be our next purchase for the spa, anyone know if they are affected by dichlor?

Would it not be reasonable to utilise the airbag inflation mechanism as an inflator also for the liferaft in the event of an accident. Perhaps the airbag just needs to be redesigned to serve both functions!

Is it not also discusting to snorkel in the water you are leying in? /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Ahh but if you redecorate every year, and never go abroad on holiday the statistics clearly show the chances of flooding are too small to worry about /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I Alfas in the event of your wife leaving the car double-parked the computer phones the bank and lets them know how many Dolce and Gabbana handbags have been deployed. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Our local supermarket is nearly there, they now have fenders tied to the motorised trolley collectors! (I'm surprised they stay there very long without going walkabout.) /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

There will be a thread soon about what code flag a motorised trolley collector should show, when a) pushing trolleys and b) running empty.
Also the signal for a trolley not under command.
A trolley on the port tack shall give way to ....

Most trolleys should have this on

Volvo will have to be quick, judging by the picture in the Freight Caption thread- the Third World R&D boys have spotted the marketing niche already.

I can just see it " A DUKW in every driveway":D
