Liferaft disposal?

Hi,

has anyone faced the problem of disposing of an unserviceable liferaft? Flares and CO2 bottle would need to be extracted? Anything else, and then what - landfill?

I inflated my old one, and then when the kids had finished playing with it, took the gas bottle off, and took it all to the local refuse disposal facility..... the flares went to the local police station

I'm surprised this question even needs to be asked! Clearly, remove flares and dispose of elsewhere. Empty gas charge by inflating the thing or undo the union on the bottle, and take it to the dump like any other trash. Why would you want to remove the bottle if it is empty, unless you wanted to keep it for some reason???

Plan to have a light hearted "exercise" with ours in the nicer weather: deploy it; sit about for while getting sick (tethered, of course). Then like Morgana.

Paddling pool

Inflate it in the garden this summer
Remove small gear incl flares
Fill with water
Let the children play
A great paddling pool with sun shade !

Just a thought. I was at a joint RNLI/CA safety event once and they used a fairly raggy old raft to show us what happened when the cord was pulled. Maybe someone near you would appreciate it for demo purposes if it's not too far gone.
