After reading and benefitting from past and current postings on self service of liferafts, I have decided to service my 6 year old liferaft this time and buy new in 3 years time, so:-

I have now removed the gas cylinder and the 'Fast Release Valve' as one piece. The gas cylinder looks pristine and is clearly marked with a weight of 5.45kg [1.20kg of CO2 and 0.06kg of N2]. When I weigh the combined units on the bathroom scales I read 5.9kg. Assuming the scales are reasonably accurate(?), the difference will be the weight of the valve.

I do not want to separate the two unecessarily.

Despite hours 'googling' I can find no info on the valve. It is a PF1-III made by Yin Jiang Life-Equipment Accessory.
Can anyone help source some information on the valve - particularly its weight?

Any other experiences/observations welcome.

Thanks
Bob

I know you posed the questions some time ago, but I've just had reason to remove the offed ing valve from my cylinder. It weighs 526 grams on the kitchen scales..... Just to fill in a gap in the knowledge base!

Thanks Duncan,

I will try to get the posted description of how to service a liferaft amended (It was kindly edited and made downloadable from the web by LadyInBed)

Cheers
Bob

I don't know if anyone's still looking at this thread. I've just semi-accidentally set my CO2 cylinder off (the mechanism was perfect!) and wondered what my options were now. Obviously can't get it refilled by Seago and I have a liferaft in immaculate condition. What a shame.

Couldn’t you deflate it and get it re-packed? After all the liferaft would be inflated during a service so not a lot of difference to a semi accidental firing.

Have a word with CTS, who test and refill many types of cylinder, that's where I get my dive tanks done. http://www.ctsukltd.com/

Thanks, I did consider that but we're in the highlands of Scotland and the carriage costs are astronomical. Definitely an option, though.

Hi, was it possible to fill the sylinder again? How did you empty it? Could the mechanism be reused?
I would appreciate any ideas and help.
