Last week I gave my 3 LJs their annual inspection and inflation. None showed any problem last year.
My two Parmaris ones manufactured in 2000 were fine.
My Seago Olympic, manufactured in 2006 (but not used until well into 2007), leaked nearly as fast as I could pump or blow into it and the fabric showed areas of delamination especially along the folds.
All Seago LJs made between 3rd quarter of 05 and 2nd quarter of 07 were subject to a recall and inspection two or three years ago - see http://www.boatingbusiness.com/news101/seago-lifejackets-recall-extended
Mine was inspected at that time and declared OK.
So if you have a Seago, and you haven't inflated it for a year, please do, even if it was checked under the recall! It may have deteriorated since.
It was out of warranty but Seago have replaced it for me with a new top of the range model for a nominal contribution (the Hammar was due for replacement and that would have cost me more) - but this one was probably useless when I was wearing it in some pretty foul conditions in December and early January. Not a nice feeling.
The new one does feel better material.
