Hi
Having reached grandfather status (the reward for having children!) My next step is to have them on the boat (in Spain). Cost is not a criteria but some seem to have a bit behind the head and some not, some have additional inflation most not. I just want something that children are going to wear without being uncomfortable or too hot. I'm sure they are all safe and do the job but what to buy?
We are talking 2 years plus kids. Weight is a slight issue since I don't really want it to take up all my Ryanair allowance.

In the same position with 4 grandchildren aged between 3 and 9 (but never all on board at the same time. We have two Baltics, one for infants with a built in nappy type crotch and one child with a strap crotch. Both with rings for a line on the back and both with collars. No inflation. Children have never objected to wearing them. Just bought 2 child automatic inflating XMs as the larger children are now over 20 kilos. Childrens LJs are sized according to weight and there is plenty of choice from the major manufacturers. Was a little hesitant about buying inflatable, but figure if they are big enough to wear them they are sensible enough not to play with the tag!

We have a 3 yo and a 1 yo. The 3 yo wears an auto inflate in pink - she chose it. When small this was a real problem as they don't like wearing for hours. We use an xm kids harness on a 4m line clipped to the boat. He is comfortable and can't fall off

i have thought about this and when asked the RNLI about a harness on a child on small motor boat smaller than 22ft they said it not a good idea to harness a child to the boat, becuase if the boat turns over at high speed, the child will go with the boat rather than getting thrown out and hopefully to a safe place other than underneath the boat.

Thanks guys, I've just ordered the one off amazon. Fits the bill and a lot cheaper than buying one in Spain.

Don't want to rain on your parade but have you checked with Ryanair if they will accept "lifejackets" in luggage ? I think they may well be considered Hazardous Goods !

That type does not have a gas cylinder. Most airlines will accept gas cylinders anyway if you tell them beforehand - there is an RYA information leaflet on the subject.
