We have just asked Force 4 and the expiry date for kits bought now is Aug 2014. That's even less than flares and seems very short to me. Is that standard or should we shop around for a longer life?

What is the bit that actually expires, if the gas cylinder is the correct weight, is that not adequate? Or is it the dissolving capsule part? Or it it both:confused::confused::confused:
What if the cylinder is the correct weight, why bother to replace??????

The full rearming kit includes the gas cylinder and the salt tablet activation module. It is the latter that expires and which we need to replace for the start of the season. It can be replaced separately and right now we need 15 of them so obviously want the best deal. If it expires mid-season we will only get this year and next then have to go through the whole rigmarole again.

Activation capsules

I bought these from apli.com a couple of weeks ago, and the expiry date on the new ones was March 2017.
Correction, expiry for capsules was 02/15.
It was the life jacket lights that came with a full 5 year life.

You should be able to buy the individual parts to a reaming pack for the Crewsaver (not sure if its just commerical which can), certainly cheaper than the whole pack. 3 years rings a bell somewhere for the packs we buy.

Cheers

Just did all of ours with kits from Aspli (only needed one full kit for one jacket where the Co2 canisters was starting to look corroded). All the others just needed the United Moulders capsule. All capsules came with a full three years change by date. I searched everywhere and they were substantially cheaper than anywhere else i could find.

Halkey Roberts "Salt" tablets have a Four Year Dating from Manufacture, standard. I'm not sure about the United Moulders cartridges, but would expect a 3 or 4 year date to expiry. As snowleopard said the Cannister doesn't expire but should be weighed and visually checked regularly.

Most Chandlers have access to the component parts for a service kit, so may well be able to sell a salt bobbin or cartridge seperately (I know that the place I work for does) so if it's purely to service and replace it might be worth phoning your intended supplier and asking them if they supply the parts seperately and getting costs.

However, having a spare cylinder to hand never hurts and means you can fully-re-arm a jacket if it gets fired....

I've ordered them from Apli.com, £3.99 + VAT, postage free, as against £8.99 + postage from online chandlers.
