Lifeboat launches on the up.

Hearing that the RNLI was launching to leisure users more than ever reminded me of some "Maydays" I've heard.

Mayday X3 "Our engines stopped"
CG: "Vessel with mayday could you give your location and vessel name"?
Vessel: "We're XXX and hang on mate we're working out our position".
CG: " How many persons have you onboard?
Vessel : "Well theres Eric and Dave & Daves lad and Pete and Me.
CG: "Hve you work out your position yet"?
Vessel: We're at LatXXXXXXXX Long XXXXXXXXX.
CG: "Your in the River Dart near the chain ferry then"?
Vessel: "Yeah thats right"
CG: "Could you wave to a passing boat and get a tow"?
Vessel: What your not coming then? Is that OK then, too just ask passers bye?
CG: "And could you let us know where your going to be landed so that someonre can come and get your details?

My other favorite was the guy on fire of Lymington.

CG: XXXX is it possible to evacuate your vessel.
XXX Not at this time. My mate was along side but when he saw the smoke he P***ed off.
CG: What are your intentions?
XXXWell if the B*****D will come back I'm getting off. I've just had the bloody thing serviced so I'm going to %%%%%%% marine and giving them a bloody good bo*****ing for starters.

I was out sailing the other day and I heard two calls for assistance to Solent Coastguard. Both were motorboats with engine trouble.

Check out the stats sometime on how many 'shouts' are to yachts with engine failure. Quite illuminating. Posted on ybw some while back.
