Life Raft Safty warning

I have just had my XM life raft serviced .. Service agent found 2 relief valves cracked .

I note that in March PBO page 5 there is a warning suggesting owners of BFA marine Pacific , Altlantic or Baltic , XM/BFA Offshore liferafts bought between 1995 and June 2000 get them serviced because of defect in valves . Viking also recalling certain serial numbers

God, the thought of it makes the blood run cold!

Last year when I argued the benefits of a boat that didn't have to rely on a life raft I was slaughtered! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Boat sank here a few weeks ago on the reef, launched his 6 month old plastimo raft, took over 1 hour to inflate and was too soft to support anything by the following morning- now that makes your blood run cold!

Better to have a raft with a chance of working properly, than no raft at all.

i agree and take great peace of mind from cruising with my dinghy stowed upside down on the foredeck - any dramas I jump up with the cockpit knife and slash the tie-downs and climb in as the boat sinks beneath me. of course you can try to deploy your liferaft as well and get into that if it works and looks more comfy but it's nice to see the dink sitting on deck 24x7 all ready to go. for example in fog (v rare here and normally with zero wind) my fog procedures include untieing it so if anything happens it's already to lift off and me climb in
