On a serious note, I never cease to be amazed at people tallent for skimping on lifejackets (the clue is in the name - dammit).

More than once I have witnessed people buying the cheapest possible item "for stowing, just in case". Yet think nothing of putting 300 quid in fuel on the credit card for a weekend blast.
