Sprog has set off his auto and not so auto inflate life jacket by pulling the cord! Delighted to know it works. Do I simply buy a replacement gas cartridge and screw it in or do I need also to replace the firing gizmo?

There are usually some plastic clips that break when the lifejacket is inflated. Typically, the clip is green and reveals a red indicator when it breaks. You need to identify the type of mechanism and buy the appropriate rearing kit which will contain the gas cylinder and other parts that you need.

My kids do the same

My kids do the same I am on my eleventh kit. They never learn, the amount of times my kids ****e themselves when they tamper with the things and it goes off in their face. Mind you at four years old.........

You can buy a rearming kit which contains the cylinder and the indicators and the immersion sensor (if its full auto). But do make sure it’s the right one. Kids life jackets have a different cylinder weight than the adult ones. From my recollection you don't replace the firing pin mechanism.
Hope this helps.
