SO are you the gambling type
or the ultra safe type.
or somewhere in between.
I think all boaters to a certain extent are gamblers ,
sometime a calculated gamble that is well thought out and therefore minimum risk, Sometimes a bit more of a gamble, they push the limited a bit more,
then there are the Adrenalin junkies as I call them, pushing the boundaries more and more.
so where do you see yourself,
when teaching I am the first type, .................

I suspect that most cruising folk are the ultra-safety type, otherwise eventually mother nature will bite them in the ar*se.

Racing guys on the other hand tend to be the gamblers even on long distance racing e.g. a well known lady doing 38 knots down a wave in the south atlantic thousands of miles from help - if thats not gambling, I dont know what is!
