There are some interesting offers from Lidl from Monday 21. Rechageable batteries and a charger. Cheap tools for the cheap tool fans. Drills, wood bits, socket and screwdriver bit sets, digital caliper. Power spotlight, multipupose rope, even a folding ladder for climbing on board when laid up. I fancy the taps and dies. They are probably no good but it's not a mint of money to lose!

I've had several sets of their rechargeable batteries which are excellent value.
The digital calipers are exactly the same as ones which I have seen for sale elsewhere at £40. Probably not true precision instruments, but very useful indeed.

What I like is the gel varnish. Can illustrated with brush alongside. Caption says "Contents and accessories not inculded." So you just get the can then?

My next door neighbour who is a self employed mechanic has a set of their taps and dies and is very happy with them. He wouldn't buy their screw drivers, though.
I bought three pairs of their £14.99 binoculars some time ago (one for bird watching and two for the boat) and have been very happy with them-
They do what I need them to do, are pretty robust and it wouldn't be a major catstrophe if they got damaged or went over the side at that price.

My local one is an 'ALDI'

I have a set of the digital calipers. Very good and stainless but a magnet will hold on them.

The taps are quite soft. The handle would not hold a tap when trying it on aluminium.

The set of four wood chisels are very good.

I have already broken one of the pads off one of the 'hands free' clamps. Although I was forcing it a bit.

You win some , you loose some.

aldi and lidl are different organisations and make different offers.

some stainless steels are magnetic. in fact bmost are when hard rolled to form martensite.

My Lidl branch still has a stock of electric scrapers... just the bean for taking antifould off. The bosch ones cost an arm and a leg... the liddle ones are about about a tenner.

IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT THE BUSINESS WAS SPLIT BY THE 2 OWNERS (BROTHERS I AM TOLD) WHO SET UP RIVAL FACTIONS. SO I'M TOLD!!!

No you are confusing Aldi and Lidl.

The founding brothers fell out over whether to sell cigarettes or not. They split the compamy into Aldi Sud and Aldi Nord.
Aldi Sud (UK franchise) does not sell tobacco product

Lidl totally separate entity
