Lidl - cheap weather station

If it is as inaccurate as the compound mitre saw I bought from LIDL earlier this year, you would get better results with a fir cone or a bunion! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

It took me a couple of weeks to set the barometer to the right local pressure, and then I found that the external senor was very sensitive to reflected radiation, so was giving optimistic readings of the external temp and humidity.

All sorted, and the only thing I've done is replaced the sensor battery (AAA ).

For the price - a good piece of kit.

Good bit of kit, this ones slightly different from last year, fewer almanac features but still useful.

Be aware that if you change the batts it defaults to midnight alarm which is irritating as you wander round house looking for bleeping noise.

Fullcicle and Stingo have both got them as well with good reports AFAIK.

Fair point. I have to admit to being very anti-LIDL, and wouldn't shop there again. This follows a hefty parking penalty charge stuck on SWMBO for a trifling overstay in their carpark!

I have one of these Vion electronic barographs on my wish list. They are also sold by Weems & Plath. Obviously a lot more expensive than LIDL's offering but the historical data is very detailed and that is possibly the most important feature

I kept my oregon unit and the Lidl unit together over last winter. There were minor differences including a 25 seciond time time difference over 3 months, which I wasnt expecting.
As a trend indicator and general alarm clock it is good, especially as you can move the data centre to nearest where you are geographically.
The baro element did take some working out, but it is fine now and tracks to within 2 mb of the Oregon unit at all tuimes, but the trend is even. I think the logic is a little slower to trend on the Oregon.
I have the external unit buried in the binnacle which works quite well.
Not replaced the batteries this year, but the alarm needs cancelling when you select the time zone after reset.

Good value, why pay more?

Cant go wrong for a tenner?
What... Forty years ago an old man told me the art of weather forecasting - this only works in the Solent.
"Son" he said "if you can see the Isle of Wight - Its going to rain"
And he said "If you cant see the Isle of Wight - its raining"

This worthy advice cost nothing and does need AAA batteries, so reducing the carbon hoofprint

I have the Vion on board and the Lidl at home. You wouldn't want a Lidl in amongst your instruments, but the vion goes reasonably well with st60 multi, weatherman and navtex. Only pain is that you have to switch the light on or off at the back which also controls the strong wind warning beep.(which works well by the way!)
