I too found the etymology interesting. I never realised that the word "shackle" was recognisable in four other languages, or that the word "rope" was recognisable in 9 other languages (excepting Finnish and Croatian) albeit as Rope, Line or Cord.
 
That is an indication of the age of the words. Basic, every day stuff will be similar in languages that have evolved from a similar base. In the opposite way, introduced items will carry the name from the introducing culture.
Finnish is a non-european language and may be related to Hungarian. I suspect the Croations are just trying to differentiate themselves from the other Balkan tribes.
