Lidl - 3 stage battery charger

That link gives a posting made in April 2006. So it may just possibly not refer to next Thursday's offer unless someone has been doing a bit of time travelling /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

There is no mention of current output or multistage charging as far as I can see.

I think these are the same ones they have had in about this time the last few years, but obviously check the item instore first as you say they dont have much detail on the website

I've got one of these. It's quite a useful charger - small, tough, water proof and with pulsed trickle charge function but it is not a 3 stage charger. The blurb refers to three modes, but these are motor bike battery(0.8a), car battery(3.6a) and very cold weather(14.7V)

If you Google tronic battery charger the info and comments on other forums indicate that it is. eg http://www.motorhomefacts.com/ftopic-13875-0.html

You will see the explanation above in an earlier post....Definitely NOT 3 stage it is said to be 3 mode....Just look at the flimsy charging leads and it is obvious it could not cope with the currents involved when charging a 100 amp/hr battery at full welly... This is just a low current trickle charger with some artistic licence used in its description.

I cannot get through to the Lidl link because, not living in the UK, I cannot enter a valid postcode. Is this the charger that you are talking about?

Picture lifted from the local Lidl newsletter received a couple of days ago.

That's the one.

I bought one when they were in stock in the past.

It stopped working properly some time time ago, so I can't remember the exact values.

It would pump out 14.4/14.7 V, depending on mode selected, until it felt that the battery was charged, then it would go into a trickle state ( 13.6V IIRC)

I think that if you then applied a load ( cabin lights for example ) it would kick back to 14.4 /14.7 V.

My unit is faulty in that it only gives the trickle charge and won't give the 14.4/14.7V.

I didn't have it permanently wired, and only used it to top up the batteries when in the marina. At the time I had the MD6A engine which didn't get used much.

IIRC, the 12V negative was isolated from the 240V neutral which is a good thing.

This is the website mentioned on my box - http://www.kompernass.com/

This is the website mentioned on my box

[/ QUOTE ] From where you can obtain the instructions that Halcyon has already given a link to!

Used mine throughout a cruise to Fance this year. it provided all my domestic power and kept 200ah of betteries in prime condition. It's small, waterproof and I was very pleased with it.

Looks the same one, and does say 3 stage, and trickle charge.

Answer I think is go to Lidle and read what it says on it.

Ohhh different picture to the one discussed in other posts however similar figures.

The Operating notes say 3 modes relating to battery being charged and although saying in one place that the starting charging current is 25 amps elswhere says the current range is 0 - 3.6 amps.

This may be ok in some circumstances but I prefer a higher charging current at times.

It would be interesting to see figures of what it achieves. The power rating is 55 watts which tells all!!!

The item in Halcyons link looks exactly the same as the one on offer from Lidl this week. Tronic is one of their brand names!

The one from Towsure looks different, is a different spec and costs more than twice as much. That's the one that mentions 25 amps, but it actually says "Starting current <25A". It is stated to be a 5 step charger, which the Tronic one from Lidl is not .

They look a similar spec to me and both mention "Starting current <25A":

I missed the <25 A on the spec for the Lidl one. Perhaps I ran out of concentration before I got that far /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

No mention of the Lidl one being a 5 step charger though or perhaps I can't see that for looking either!
