Well managed to get there again by tube and DLR. This year & last went on the preview day and within 30mins of opening time - what a difference this year.

Last year like a zoo - this year I was the only person in the tube carrage for the last couple of stops!. The show is same layout (roughly) as I remember from before but it was most certainly a lot more quiet.

I get the impression that the 'market' has turned somewhat. Will be interesting to see what attendance numbers are and what the industry take is after all is said and done. Good show non the less IMHO.

It was great to meet up with some other Forum guys over a pint and shoot the breeze with MBY peeps. Unfortunatly due to the rather 'loose' meeting arrangements I am sure others were around but, as typically in these cases, unless you have met people before its difficult to tell who is who. Duncan & Mike_Gates did a couple of laps wearing the Forum penant to no avail.....

I made a complete ass of myself on the P67 my suggesting to a chap who was on board at 1030ish (and who said he had one coming in june/july) that ''Oh! You must be Magnum....?''the guy looked at he as if I was nuts and was offended that I thought he looked like an aging TV star!. The bit about the YBW forum etc etc was lost on him. Sorry!

Had a chance meeting with a certain gent on the Trader out on the water in the pontoon area - he was muttering about speed and consumption and comparing hull forms and comfort issues, but he was smiling broadly!

What do others think of LIBS then?

Just back from Friday show, lots more stands than last year, if your going you need to do some planing! very tempted to go back in this morning as still plenty of stands i hadent found/visited.
could not find MBY ( wanted to take subscription ) or Sun-Coast ( wanted free drink )
Predator 72 stunning!!!! Targa 62 stunning !!!! Squadron 74 (want one)
big three sales staff some better than others, (god, I'd love someone to SELL me a boat )
All the bars very busy, we found peace & quiet (and seats )in a tapas bar at the top of the stairs towards the RYA lounge, the guys in the bar say they are quiet because the signs lead a lot of people to think the tapas bar is private for the RYA( not so the RYA is up another flight of stairs)
Bargain of the day, a cheap VHF for the grab bag, £40!"!
most worrying thing of the day THAT SQUADRON!!!!!

He's right on both accounts and both timings as I was with him and given that I was standing on transom with Mrs Magnum at the time , how did you miss us? At least you (should) recognise me...

Now come on, you can do better than that. What major stands are you near or next to? What landmarks can we use to navigate to your stand?

North Hall is huge

Re: LIBS - visit report/Sealine t61

Yup, magnum was on the p67 at 2.30 thursday cos I was too. Press day is the day to go, much quieter. We had a nice look around P67, Sq74, sunseeker 75+82 yacht. all salesfolk were charming and not at all difficult, tho between us we already knew the Princess and Fairline guys. The sunseeker salesman, for whom we were a cold call with no appointment was most welcoming and let us look round the 75 and 82 as much as we wanted. All 4 aforementioned boats were fab, btw

We also had a long look around the Sealine T61. Nice welcoming salesman. The boat had some nice features and fittings but it was only 70% nice, and hugely let down by the 30% that was all wrong. Wardrobe doors in front cabin not lined up (on different planes), soft trimmings all bodged, nasty carpet (not enough strands per sq inch, so when it is wrapped over a convex surface like edge of a step you can see the canvas, ugh), rough edges and bits of veneer coming off, utterly appalling choice of materials (eg yuk bathrooms, why a compact not full size Tecma toilet in the owner's cabin?) and overhead hand rails in the saloon ceiling that were made of welded mild steel tube spray painted in textured paint, like the handrails in a bus! Aaargh! The piece de resistance was the flybridge table, which was nicely set up for a sunny lunch party but the table top was fake printed wood grain, like fablon. Please guys, on a £850k boat, either finish the outside tables in white or in real wood, but dont think anyone is gonna be duped by printed woodgrain. Try spinning the lower helm chairs which are meant to rotate 360deg, only they dont because they bump into the side of the boat. Dont wobble them or they feel as if they might come off in your hand. Also intriguingly, the show boat (they said) was hull #4, so they aint exactly selling well. Such a shame they cant go that last (let alone the extra) mile and sort these details out

I bought one of those new Raymarine wireless remotes so you can operate the a/pilot and steer manually from the sunbed. They're discounted already, was £410 not the list £460

Good show I thought, I'll go back another day
