So now the show is over and my "three-foot chest" has deflated, what did I really think of having volunteered for the YM stand against all your advice?

Well, it really wasn’t that bad. The chance to talk sailing with 100’s of people – paradise! Standing on my feet all day – hell! Drinking the odd Guinness – refreshing (thank you NigeCh, Denbigh, John C).

The task – to sign umpteen people up as cannon fodder for Scuttlebutt. How to discriminate a computer nerdish raggie from an IT phobic stinkpot? Slick hair, close shave and polished boots – doubtful. Large RYC badge on reefer jacket – forget it. Full set cluching many over-loaded poly bags – distinct prospect. Rolling gait, antifouling besmirched fingers – jackpot!

I’m only sorry not to have been able to put more faces to names I already recognised. Would I do it again? Errr …. Yes, despite your presentiments the bottom line is I actually found it fun. And I hope all you people I signed up find this forum as good as I promised!

I enjoyed it so much I went twice!! You all seemed well motivated and enjoying yourselves.

Did offer the scotch as a prize for the most inventive use of the red string of the carrier bag handles but alas- no takers.

Therefore have drunk half of it myself.

Guinness was good wasn't it?

BTW, you do choose some odd drinking mates!!

Red & Green String

Well Steve, we bought a trolly and a HUGE emergency bilge pump mounted on an aluminium hanging thing, complete with hoses. It looked like something from Ghostbusters and we had to get it back to Jersey. We used our port and starboard string to tie it to trolley, didn't half get some odd looks. We would have been OK if London had flooded though!
