Anyone know any body that sells pattern parts .... just been quoted £35 for replacement rubber seals.....seems excessive, but as my local dealer said 'anything to do with yachts is expensive!!'
You may not need new seals. What's the problem you have?
If the window is leaking, try cleaning the seals with a degreaser. Also if they're opening windows, the tangs on the catches get loose over time. You can tighten them either by removing the spacers behind or simply tapping the tangs back gently.
Thanks Bob, two out of five windows have started to leak (we had a lot of rain at the Tidemill, Woodbridge over the weekend!) I guessed that the rubber seal would probably need changing (the boats 1988) but based on you advice I will take a closer look!
Yes, I had similar problems with my windows and managed o get them all to re-seal perfectly (tapping the tangs back up was the most effective thing to do).
However another problem that I found, was that the windows were all originally put in using a foam gasket behind them. These has gone hard and crumby, and were letting water in behind the frame. Th remedy for this was to remove the windows, clean all the old gasket off, and re-seat them using Abromast butyl sealant.
Yes.. as the others have said you really need to confirm where exactly the water is coming in. You also did not say whether they were Lewmar portlights or Lewmar hatches!
Have you checked the online prices from the LewmarSpares website.
Note - As well as possibly coming in via the window seal, or the seal to the coachroof.. water can even come in via the handle swivel hole, in which case it could be just a simple o-ring replacement.
