Posted this on PBO but thought I might also give it a go here...

Went to drop the hook for the first time on our new (to us) boat and disaster struck - despite the motor turning the damn thing just let out all of the chain which then had to be hauled in by hand... such a joy in the blazing sun!

I tightened the clutch thingy as much as possible but to no avail. The motor appears to run appropriately so I'm assuming something to do with the clutch must have worn out inside.

Does anyone know if this is this an easy fix or do I need to get a proper man in? If the latter, any recommendations in the Gosport (Haslar) area would be appreciated.

Many thanks for any advice your'e able to offer

If the motor is running then, unless it's stripped its gears, you should be able to fix it. Start by taking a look at the Lewmar web site, at the manuals, which amongst other things, will give you an exploded diagram to assist you to take it apart. The URL is http://www.lewmar.com/support/index.asp
I've had my Sprint 600 to bits a couple of times and replaced the motor. It's not a rocket (as in - it's not rocket science).

Give Malcolm Morling a call on 07900 692 345. He'll probably be with you in 10 minutes 'cos he's based in Haslar and he won't bankrupt you.

Declaration of interest: He's a good mate, but he's also highly recommended by several other 'butters.

Great thanks for the tip Steve.

i have spoken to Malcolm and he immediately seemed to know what the problem is and will (hopefully!) put it right next week... no more lifting by hand - oh, deep, deep joy!
