Question: I have a classic Lewmar Ocean Winch 48 which needs replacing and I was wondering if to install a new Lewmar 50 REVO reversible winch which represents the equivalent size.

I know the REVO and the EVO winches have the same drilling template but I don´t know if the template is the same as the classic Ocean winch which I have. Any information on this?

Help much appreciated

Fchurtic,

The EVO 50 and Ocean 48 are interchangeable..same drilling pattern.

You don't make it clear whether you have electric or manual Ocean 48s. If electric, then yes either an electric EVO50 or the REVO50 will fit straight in where your electric Ocean 48 was.

If you have manual Ocean 48s, then the drilling pattern for the electric winches is different from the manual versions. You would need to drill a large hole for the drive-shaft anyway, so the fact the mounting holes are different probably isn't a significant problem.

Hope that helps,

Ben

Thanks Ben. The 48s I have are electric. I spoke in parallel to a helpful person from your technical support who is going to send me the manuals as I am looking at installing a dual winchsystem for controlling the traveller from the wheel. I would also like to have the option to work them independently so I can use one of of them for the main halyard or similar use.

Just another voice to say that Lewmar have always been very helpful. the manuals don't give the drilling template, but if requested they will email you pdfs showing the patterns for the winches you are removing and those you are planning to fit, if they are different. I changed some Lewmar 30s for ST30s and the pattern is slightly different, but with the drawings in hand I knew which holes needed to shift 1mm and which needed to be redrilled for the correct orientation.
