I lost an Orage floating one with a black handle and no locking thingy a couple of weeks ago near Hurst. Never lost one before I bought a floating one !.

If you've found it and it sounds like mine then please keep it - it obviously didn't want to be on my boat anyway !

Dave.

Smug

One advantage of my prehistoric non-tailing tufnol winches then: the winch handle is held in by a dirty great split pin. It only comes out when I need to stop a mqackeral from wriggling about in the bucket.

Re: Smug

Yes.... I used to do that but it gets a bit messy on the teak decks. Straight in a tesco carrier bag now and tie it over the stern until it's stops wriggling.

Re: Smug

Unfortunately I think I'd lose it if I tried the old Tescos Drogue technique for more than an hour or so, a bucket of seawater on the after deck is a bit more secure. After losing breakfast off Brighton once, when one of them made a miracle recovery and leapt for freedom, I now pacify them with a winch handle on the cockpit floor.
