I've just replaced the windlass on my Harmony 34 with a VX2. I have a simple question to ask.

Is it in any way essential to connect the electric motor thermal cut out wires into the system, or does the breaker at the battery suffice to protect the motor from overload?

Thanks in advance.

I don't know why some expert hasn't answered?

But wouldn't the circuit breaker be protecting the whole circuit against a dead short and the thermal overload be protecting the motor from overheating due to working it beyond its capacity?

Thanks for your reply. You may have put your finger on it there coopec.
I supppose I’m being lazy looking for a way to avoid wiring the the thermal cutout in to the circuit. The wires from the cutout are so short that without extending them, they don’t reach anywhere useful to make the connection. Also there is no dedicated provision made for them to exit the protective cover that surrounds the motor and so it would seem that they would have to be squeezed in alongside one of the heavy cables where they exit the cover.
