Lewmar Throttle Control - Throttle Lever Position

Hello,

I would like to change my old Morse control to a new Lewmar control as per the link.

Engine control with single lever LEWMAR

My query is about the throttle lever and if it can be mounted in any position. The throttle housing on my boat is a recessed arch. The cable operating mechanism is horizontal. The Lewmar cable operating mechanism is vertical, the majority of which would protrude into my cockpit locker and be at risk from moving objects.

I can mount the Lewmar throttle device so that the cable operating mechanism is horizontal, but I would then have to orientate the throttle lever by 90 degrees so that it can operate across the full range of movement, within the recessed arch.

Can the lever be mounted in any position on the splined shaft?

Thanks,

Yes short answer it designed with that in mind

The Lewmar control you show looks like it is a morse SL(3?) with the lewmar face plate
The handle fits with a taper course spline unlike 90% of others that use a fine spline so it’s not so small variations but logic would assume 90* would be ok
It is a desirable though expensive option for any boat

Thanks, its the positive engagement between neutral and idle that I am interested in. The old morse unit, and the second hand ones I acquired to have spares, have lost their positive detent indiction at the tick over position. Yes, its expensive, but hopefully a one off cost for the rest of the yachts life.

Don’t think it will help if that is main reason for changing (the fitting instructions are for base control that lewmar utilised )but it will still look great

Based on feedback from here, and trying the proposed throttle yesterday on another boat, the action is very positive and superior to my morse. My morse now has difficulty engaging neutral.

Problem is the hoover thermos etc of using brand names for items compounded with Morse being sold and integrated so often
Do you know what control you actually have ?

I just need to know if the handle on the linked unit can be rotated. Scottie advised that it can and the drawings suggest it can as well.

Thanks for your help.
