Lewmar pro 1000 windlass

I'm having problems with my windlass. It's a Lewmar pro 1000 deck mounted all stainless steel model.
It's less than three years old, not had a hard life at all since having installed it this being only the second season.
The windlass problem seems that it will not cope with the weight of the anchoring gear even though this is well within spec. It coped easily the first season. It seems that I can't tighten the clutch enough to stop the slipping.
I've maintained it as per handbook and servicing the gypsy at the end of the season.
Anyone else had a similar winch and problems with it?

I assume we're talking about slipping with a freely hanging chain and anchor rather than a set anchor? If so, have you stripped down the clutch mechanism (both faces) as a slipping clutch seems very unusual under normal loads. Is it assembled correctly with the maximum amount of friction surface facing each other. The faces should usually be greased but if they are and it's slipping I would try wiping off the grease and trying again. If that resolves the problem I would be wondering whether there is an assembly problem or the wrong type of grease being used, although I would have thought that virtually any type grease would suffice.

Hi, have the same winch for 3 years with 8mm chain and 15 kg anchor. Had no issues as you describe that could not be solved by tightening the gypsy nut.

There is a great series of 3 videos on YouTube about troubleshooting and stripping down this winch - describes a locking bearing system in the winch which can be an issue.
