I've tightened up the screws on the friction hinges on the low profile Lewmar Ocean hatches on my boat over the years to maintain the friction so the hatch stays half open, but during the last year one of the hatches has started to creak really loudly when its opened. I sprayed the hinge with PTFE spray which stopped the squeak but I have now no friction at all and the hatch drops.
I've taken the hinge apart and cleaned it up, and it all seems ok inside. Should the hinge be dry or greased in some way?
I've looked for spares and it seems I can only buy a complete new hinge, I think what it may need is new friction washers, are these obtainable?
Has anyone experience of fixing this problem?

Try spraying the friction bit with IPA (don't get it on the acrylic though).

That's industrial alcohol, not beer by the way.

What are you expecting spraying with IPA to do? It would only evaporate.
I'm going to take the hinge off and degrease it and see what it's like when used without any lubricant.
Surprising that no one else has had this problem.

My Gebo forehatch creaks and groans enough to wake the dead when opening/closing. I spoke (via email) to their tech bods who said definitely not to try any sort of lubricant. Unfortunately they didn't give any suggestion as to how to quiet it.
If you manage a solution please come back and report.

The clue is "friction" hatch, lube = no friction.
i have to adjust mine dependent upon ambient temp

Years ago a friend of mine decided to protect the mounting arms for the sunvisors in his classic car by treating them with Waxoyl. Thereafter the sunvisors never stayed in the "up" position again.
