I have a sturdy lewmar mamba 12v autopilot drive which has done good service for 25 years but the clutch has started slipping.
I have stripped it down to the clutch which appears to be electromagnetic. I'm in the Cape Verdes so access to service is very limited.
Presumably the electromagnetic unit, which holds the clutch plate, needs to slide on it's keyed shaft to allow the two sides of the clutch to come together....? It doesn't currently seem to.
Assuming that this is not the problem and the friction plate is just worn, is there anything I can do to coax a bit more life out of it to get me somewhere I can do a proper fix? Any suggestions gratefully received.
