Lewmar mainsheet traveller question

Hi I have a Contessa 32 with an old Lewmar mainsheet traveller system. Does anyone kmnow whether the Lewmar S1 kit will retrofit onto the old bolt holes. Also the track has to run across the cockpit and so i need to be sure its fairly strong (it would be well supported on both sides).

I don't know about Lewmar, but Harken do tall-section track for bridging cockpits and low-section track for where it's continuously supported.
Some track is held down by bolts which slide inside the extrusion, so no issues with hole spacing.
You just need access underneath to do the nuts up...

used the same, as the bolts sit in a slot you can adjust to fit existing holes.
On the Lewmar tech spec you find the max unsupported span.

On a Co32 there should be no unsupported span as its on the bridgedeck

Does that mean i have to access the nuts which are i believe encased in GRP :-(. A better option for me is to be able to drill holes where required in the track and use the original config.

I don't know your boat but it sounds strange that he nuts is encased in GRP, I would think that you need to access the nuts to take apart.
Mine sits on the cabin top, had to take down the head liner to unscrew the nuts.
Our old one was drilled with uneven distance between the holes, so the options where
1) copy old pattern
2) Use sliding bolts

Im not sure of where the bridgehead is but im guessing mine runs just aft of that and is unsupported. I can see the picture of the track and if you cant turn the bolt head then i would have to access the nuts that are encapsulated in GRP ?

Did you tighten via the nuts below or can you get to bolt heads

Are you sure the nuts are encapsulated - sounds very strange
With the sliding bolt track type the bolt head is locked in the slot, so in this case you must turn the nuts.
On tracks with drilled holes you would normally use slotted CSK screws - so in theory you can screw from the top..

And damage the anodising in the process

Mine had the slotted CSK screws i believe. I will check but am pretty sure the nuts were encased (certainly in the cockpit locker). So i may have to try and get a system with holes in the top and / or redrill. Thanks for useful input

I used hex socket csk screws into tapped holes in the deck to hold down my lewmar traveller track which looked like it was powder coated and not anodizing.

There is no sign of corrosion on the track at the bolt holes

My Ronstan sheet track is anodized and has plastic insulated countersunk washers supplied.

hex socket csk screws is the way to go.
