Hi
Wondered if you can help, I have two lewar hatches in the boat (approx 1989, 500x450) and they no longer stay open.
I know they should have some sort of plastic insert in the hinge assembly but these have at some point been lost.
I looked on the Lewmar site but it was not clear what I needed and also how to fit any replacement parts. The hinge pins seem to be rivited in, do you have to drill them out or is there another way?
Any ideas? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I recently adjusted a couple of mine which wouldn't stay open. I just tightened up the hinge stay (with an allen key IIRC). If you've already tried that, just ignore me! /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

My problem has always been the ratchet device getting stiff. Answer - a good wash with fresh water and then silicone grease on the ratchet. Maybe in your case the spring against the ratchet has stuck.

Probably you have Lewmar rollstop hatches see

This is from the MOA Technical Library:

Over time the cams in the hatch hinges will wear and need replacing. Repair kits are available. They contain parts for more than one type of hinge. Carefully identify the correct new parts and discard the rest.

Replacing cams is usually frustrating but the instructions do work. It's important to open the hatch fully to release pressure on the cams. If you cannot do this you need huge pressure on the hatch (I have used a prop shaft as a lever!). Safer is to remove the hatch, this is straightforward and gives the opportunity to replace the sealant which also hardens and perishes over time. Clean thoroughly before replacing and resealing the hatch.

As to which spares kit you need, it's not obvious on the Lewmar site but an agent will help you. I bought kits at a Boat Show.

Thanks for that I did look at this site but as you say it was not clear which parts are required, I think I will try at the boat show. thanks for the info.
