I was looking at some Lewmar videos on you tube and their interesting marketing about the differences between the ocean and Evo winches. One bit was how the ocean winch needed two people to fit it and with the new Evo and the "FAST FIT" stud fixings this can be done with just one person. However, I have purchased an Evo winch with the intention of fitting it the traditional way, removing the drum and fitting bolts through the base and nuts underneath. However, if anyone intends to try the Fastfit method obtaining the fast fit studs maybe more difficult despite what the marketing suggests on the packet.

The chandlery I purchased the winch from said its incorrect and can only be fitted with bolts. However when I contacted Lewmar support they said there are threaded holes for studs to be fitted but its an option normally used for boat builders. Lewmar themselves don't supply any fittings.

I Think Lewmar marketing department need to review their packaging and literature. Lewmar support did mention that they are sorry and I will pass it over to marketing to adjust the packaging. stating again It was primary introduced for boat builders to install quickly, but through bolting is now most common way of fixing.

I replaced Gibb winches with Evos and ended up with even more holes in the baseplate rather than drilling the boat!
Time we had some EIA type standards.

I had Gibb winches with 4 mounting holes. I bought a pair of Lewmar s/t winches which have 5 mounting holes. So, new holes to be drilled and old ones to plug.

Now I've decided I prefer the old Gibbs after all. So more holes to drill and more to plug :(

Hey Ho.
