Currently reconditioning winches on mast. I'm taking apart halyard winch on mast - Lewmar 8 alloy.

Looking at Lewmar drawings they are showing a key to remove but there's no key visible on this particular winch.

Any advice on how to remove the inner shaft would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Q

My simple lewmar winches have a nylon biscuit towards the bottom holding the shaft in the base. This is all visible once the drum has been removed not knowing how far you have already got.

Many Thanks Boathook, for your quick reply. On next visit will take closer look for biscuit & take photo. Regards Q.

There is a drawing of a size 8 winch on the Lewmar site.

The item number 9 is a "biscuit" that is held by the drum and fits into a groove on the shaft. If you remove it, the shaft should come out. This is theoretical as I do not own this sized winch!

I hope that this helps

My type of simple lewmar winch!

Hi Guys, Boathook & TudorSailor. The number 8s on board, were discontinued in 1980. Hats-Off here to Lewmar, for using quality materials. So the USA assortment (biscuit) then appeared & drawings. I have since discovered a clip on U-Tube, showing a humble sailor gently dismantling an older winch, and Bingo! There's a circlip at the bottom end of the shaft, hidden behind the mounting bracket for the winch. We have solution, now for execution. Thanks again for your advice, & thanks too for the forum on YBW.COM. Happy Sailing, Q.
