Running a cold diesel engine with no load is probably a bad thing as the excess fuel used at tick off can glaze the bores. Running at tick over for about 5 minutes after a cruise is recommended as this cools the turbo. Generally speaking, from when you come into the marina at slow speed till you tie up is probably long enough. If you have turbo pressure gauges you can see when the turbo cuts in and therefore any rpm below that speed will cool the turbo - with us that's anything below 10 knots.
