Hi people,

I picked up a copy of May 2007 MBM and got very interested in an article (ask the experts) regarding a re-engine...(Petrol to Diesel)
I thought "This is a virtually identical situation to me"

Then i thought " This is me!"..

The article is an edited version of my forum request back in february, with few bits taken out and a couple of bits added..
I didn't even send in a letter.. (and it wasn't on the forum column)

Whats that all about?
The advice isn't bad tho.offered some more engine alternatives. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

In 2000 I had a small bit in about a water proof BDH full of goodies and kept in my RIB then used as a life raft .

In 2003 same photo, same article, slightly reworded and owner changed from Mr DAKA to Miss Daker, at the time there should have been £200 for any article printed.

Not to miss the opportunity for a free meal out I wrote to MBM editorial claiming my £200, I even sent a copy of the first article and photo(same).

I didnt even receive a reply /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

How cheeky is that?
I don't know about you but i've spent a good few quid on MBM over the years so if i was in you're boat (excuse the pun) i'd be expecting my reward..

Strewth GMTV are stitching up their phone-in viewers (allegedly of course /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif ) and MBM are writing ficticious letters.

Good ol Blighty is going to the dogs! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

You and me must be thinking alike.
I just replied to DAKA mentioning GMTV...

Hi Nik

I am responsible for the inclusion of your query in MBM. You asked a question on this forum, which I contributed an answer to. I then used this answer in the Mag, as it was a good question that would have had wider appeal. You don't need to write in to us with your query, we do monitor these fora and will endeavour to answer readers questions on line, as well as in the traditional manner.

I hope this answers your query.

Neale

Thanks Neale for replying on this.

I've no worries about appearing in the magazine.. However my post has been edited with details which i didn't say which personally i'm not 100% comfortable with.
No biggy in actuality but the principal of adding additional detail to my post i dont like.

regards,

Nik

Agreed, and he didn't get paid for the letter when apparantly at the time letters were being paid for..

The principal seems underhand to me.

The t&c's at http://www.ybw.com/ybw/ipc.htm spell it out, namely clause 3.2 gives IPC ownership of all user generated material posted on this website. IPC don't provide the Forums out of the kindness of their hearts, it's a valid commercial decision.

Although I agree that it's a bit of a cheek to not give credit where credit is due.

A couple of years ago (different name then /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif) I asked a question about locating knocking shops conveniant to harbours.

I still haven't had a reply /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif........unless my original post got changed into a query about Stuffing Boxes /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

£200 would be helpful on my next trip......especially if I could get an answer to my original question /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Yes I know what it says. But no reason to tell lies and fool the public into saying it was a letter from Miss Daker. (If indeed this was the case). It makes you wonder if they ever get any letters, or are they all made up.

Why not just say, from Daka on the forum and have done with it. Maybe send him a polite PM saying. Umm sorry we cant send you £200 cos we just sort of knicked it from the forum and you never actually sent us a letter. So hard luck.

Sorry but you are mixing up incidents here.

Dakagate was not related to the forums in any way, in fact it relates to a time long before Daka was registered on the forum. Also the sum of £200 has never been offered to readers for letters.

Fire99gate was a question raised on the forums and answered by a number of people including myself. I then used the question, and my answer in the mag on the Q&A pages, as it was a very general question that had an answer with wide appeal. There is no financial payment for questions published in MBM, and no credit published for the person raising the question.

I once posted a funny picture on here.....Garys weather forecasting stone ....or similar.

had a PM and e-mail from ipc asking if i knew the origin, which i didnt.
but was published as "letter" of the month.

I wasnt too bothered as the Prossers Rum and Grog prize is still being enjoyed /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Also helps if you have a chat using the old fashioned phone thingy , spoke to one editor a short while back , very nice chap and most helpful and encouraging

Thankyou Neale for your partial explanation

In the interests of completeness the sum of £200 was an error on my part and should have read £50 which was the sum offered for Owners Tips and ideas.

The event I summarised was factual although I had slightly altered the name , the actual magazine feature was even more humorous as my name had been changed to the town where I lived !

I will be happy to forward full details of the event if you are interested but the only reason why I dont post here is in case it affects a certain gentleman who took the snap while on my boat........

The one and same who gave the whole commentary on the Boat Show RNLI recovery demonstration in 'Pakistanish' /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I say no more on here for fear of being erased

would you like details by pm ?
