Over this weekend lets try and count the number of red paras we see let off by numptys.

It would be interesting just to see how many get reported here?

Peter.

Nov 05 is a great time to get rid of old flares, where's the problem, some unwritten col reg in the grumpy guide to cruising?

totally illegal actually.

And this is one I agree with.

Maritime flares are designed to last at least as long as the parachute takes to float back to earth, that means that the vast majority of them are still burning when they land even if launched at the optimum angle for height. Thus it is a real danger that they can start a fire when they land. Whereas a firework is designed to have burnt out long before reaching terra firma unless the numpty letting it off goes for some really shallow angle of launch.

Why don't you take a squiz at the thread above where a member almost had his boat burnt to the waterline and then tell me that letting off flares on Nov 5th is a good idea?

Peter.

I did, I still think it is the best time we have to test out our out of date flares.

And, of course, once they have been shown to work properly then we will know that we can rely on them.
