If you wanted any more proof that the idiot tactics of the Windermere Action Force are going to scupper any public sympathy or chance of getting the 10 mph speed limit reversed then read the following from the
Westmorland Gazette

"A PARLIAMENTARY candidate who arrived in the Lake District this week to launch his election campaign ended his visit being quizzed by police over a dispute with a ranger, reports Michaela Robinson-Tate.

Independent candidate and long-standing anti-10mph speed limit protester Tony Kemp told The Westmorland Gazette that he voluntarily attended a police station after kicking off his campaign by water-skiing in a business suit on Windermere.

He said he was questioned over an alleged incident between him and a Lake District National Park Authority ranger.

Mr Kemp, 45, of Bingley, who is standing for the Westmorland and Lonsdale seat, claimed that the incident arose over him being filmed by the ranger. He said that what happened had been captured on film by watching media, and he denied any wrongdoing.

"They (the police) said they would be investigating the matter further," he said.

"I know they have been in touch with the press to ask for a copy of their tape, and I think this is - please quote me on this an appalling waste of police time."

He told the Gazette he had been skiing at speeds of up to 25mph.

If the speed limit, which was imposed last month after many years of controversy, was broken, it would be the boat driver who would be in trouble. In this case, the driver was wearing a mask and left the scene without giving his name.

Rangers, unlike the police, do not have the authority to demand someone's name and address.

LDNPA spokesman Mick Casey said that a ranger attended hospital for treatment.

Mr Casey said that Mr Kemp's water-skiing party was being monitored by rangers as part of the routine implementation of the by-law.

Mike Head, for Cumbria Police, said a 45-year-old man from Bingley attended Windermere Police Station voluntarily and he had been reported for the offence of common assault."

Whatever the incident was, the filming by the rangers is nothing you can do anything about. There is no right to privacy in the UK and acting illegally in public is hardly a good stance to get shirty from.
Would you vote for this man?

So you thump them? (I'm not insinuating that Tony Kemp thumped anyone, I only know as much as is shown in the article)
And who will rescue your boat or loved ones when disaster strikes?

Yes I would vote for him, the assault is clearly wrong, but the main issue of someone being bothered to take action to raise the profile of their cause is right up my street, a politician that is prepared to go out and do something is worth one hundred of the other kind. Great stuff!

So the boat driver wore a mask.............. the boat owner should be easy to trace though (isn't that what the LDNPA numbers are for)

I would not vote for this pr@! though....... if he disagrees with a law he should challenge it through the courts, not simply choose to break it.

Has anyone asked the lake wardens if they actually like the idea of being the ones responsible for enforcing the speed limit?

Absolutely. I come across the wardens quite often. They are very pleasant, like helping people, but part of the job is enforcing the bye-laws. For this reason some people dislike them.
This bye-law has been introduced and they have to police it. They probably don't want to, it makes their own job harder. Their daily check of mooring sites used to take a couple of hours, now it takes most of the day.

Tony Kemp has also been responsible for the "Lake District National Park Newsletter" which was mailed to everyone in the National Park.
It appears to be from the LDNPA but is not and espouses the WAF views.
(it's also reported on in the Westmorland Gazette web-site)
It is full of broad claims and half truths which distort the facts.

Again these tactics are not the way to work for change.
The LDNPA must be chuckling up their collective sleeves. They really don't have to do anything other than let him get on with his campaign of piss ing off the whole of the local populace and anyone else who has (had) sympathy with the sports boat entusiasts.

No, I don't condone iresponsible behaviour, but...

Law-makers beware!! The continued introduction of useless laws that do not have relevance to society gives rise to insurrection and civil disobedience. No - I'm not kidding. And this country is not that far away from social disorder, where people in a reasoned majority object (more strongly that usual) to useless petty dicriminatory laws.

The bottom line is this: what people want from the law, and those that enforce it, is a peacful and safe life for themselves and their families in an environment that gives a reasonable living. The continued encroachment of petty, irrelevent laws (and foxhunting is a good example) is starting to get otherwise law-abiding peoples backs up!!

Mine included.

I quite agree with that.
I can't imagine why our civil servants and elected representatives think we need so many laws and regulations.
They are are just reacting to various vocal (minority) pressure groups.

When I am World President all proposed laws will have to go to my Common Sense Committee and then be chucked in the bin.
