i am a canadian reader of Ships Monthly and born in the Magdalen islands and the former Irish Ferries "Leinster" is now operating under the name "Madeleine" for CTMA. Over the years , i read some articles about her former owners and some pictures of the ship. I would like to tell you that she is still in very good shape due to a good maintenance. I take that ferry every year to go back to my Islands since i live in Quebec City. Do you have at Ships Monthly some pictures taken when she was launched or early in her carreer? would like to see them- I saw some on Shipnostalgia.com-thanks

Good heavens. I sailed on a ship called the Leinster from Liverpool to Dublin..and back, in 1963 (I was 9 years old). Is it the same ship or a later ship of the same name?

Two things come back to me. Dads car in those days was a Peugeot 403, and it nearly ended up in the dock as it had a steering lock, which was almost unknown on British cars of that era. It wasn't Ro Ro it was slung aboard..when they eventually stopped it with one wheel over the edge and the steering locked up :D

We had taken our feisty Welsh Corgi "Teifi" with us, but she had to travel seperately..Not she...on the return trip she slipped the stewards lead and ran off back into Dublin, presumably looking for us. We sailed without her very tearfully, but she was found three days later on the steps of the US embassy, and returned in full harness on the bridge of the Leinster with the captain. We had a special trip to Liverpool to pick her up. I still remember the captain whistling us to look up at the dockside, and there she was with him on the bridge, well trussed up. Joy was unconfined I can tell you.

There. A silly story, but all true.:D

I've just checked 'my' Leinster was built in 1948, so it is an earlier ship.

MV Leinster British & Irish Steam Packet Co.

I wonder if this is your ship?
I traveled on her in force 11 on the Irish Sea crossing and all went according to plan. The Sealink ferry did not travel that night so I was transferred to the Leinster at Holyhead.Sat in the aft bar as the crashing from forward was prodigious!

here's the link!
