I think i have inadvertantly swopped over my Bravo 2 legs when i refitted them the weekend. The manual does not mention anything about which side the legs should be (contra rotating props) I guess it would not harm to use the other wear faces of the pinion drives i.e. both units will now run in the reverse direction. The props will have to swopped over although it is normal to run the standard rotation prop. on the port side. MayI tap into the vast collective Knowledge of the forum for the answer. Thanks. Dave.

I don't think there is any problem with the legs as you describe. After all, one has to go one way and t'other the other all their lives.

Obviously, there are 2 setups for contrarotation, together at the top or at the bottom. I believe I'm right in saying inwards together at the bottom is better for 2 reasons. Allegedly the boat tracks truer and may be a bit quicker - I think the optimum setting is also to have the intoeing (pointing together at the bow end) about 2-3 degrees.
I believe you get much superior turning when on fore and aft on the engines. If the starboard prop turns clockwise when looked at from behind, consider what happens if ones just engages the starboard engine in forward - the thrust will turn the boat towards the port but the paddlewheel effect will tend to move the stern to starboard thus complementing one another. Add in the effect of putting the port into astern and the forces work the same way. You will always get the paddlewheel effect helping the direction the thrust is turning the boat. If the props go the other way round the forces are opposed.

That's the theory anyway. I don't think there is any mechanical reason for you to go to the trouble of swapping them over again for this year but it would be fascinating if you would compare this year's handling and then put it back to the "normal" way next winter and report on your findings

Can I pick your brains??

I know you wanted info from us but...

I need to loosen my 290DP legs and re-seal them against the transom (suspect minor leak) when I have my boat lifted out. Where are the bolts etc that hold them on and what is the procedure?? I don't actually want to remove them, just get some sealant in there. Cheers.

Re: Can I pick your brains??

Not an easy job as I assume you mean the transom shields (The fixed bit that the legs are attatched to)
The shields support the rear of the engine so you would need some means of supporting the back of engine to remove them.
Not normally known to leak, What symptoms have you got?

You may find that turn while stopped just using the engines will not work as well as before due to paddlewheel effect being reversed (or you may find that they got it wrong when initially installed /forums/images/icons/smile.gif)
