Hi,

Is it worth taking out the optional (chargeable) legal protection cover when renewing boat insurance?

Your thoughts would be most appreciated!

Cheers, Allan

Read the small print very carefully, in particular the bit (if it's in your policy) that excludes any contractual dispute with a value in excess of £5,000. It's amazing what they will try to claim as "contractual" when push comes to shove.

There is one insurer (I am not going to name names, but they're a major player in the legal Insurance market) who are apparently notorious amongst brokers for trying to avoid paying out under any circumstances.

Caveat emptor

Its very much a case of reading the small print and seeing what you actually get for your money, weighing up the pro's and con's and taking it from there.
