Sorry if it has been mentioned before, but since a few months you can download free and legal charts (provided by a European project to provide free river and canal information)
http://ris.vlaanderen.be/html_en/vaarkaarten/index.html
There are the inland waterways of Flanders, and more important, a link to all the charts of the Netherlands (complete - but no coastal info), and other parts of mainland Europe too.
They load directly into OpenCpn, but it takes a while as the database has to be reworked.
The charts are well up-to-date. I haven't been able to get depth info on the charts, but I may have missed something in the OpenCpn settings. Also, sandbanks are absent from view...

Free Charts for openCPN

Good to hear again of these.I did post sometime ago about the legal source.
Let us know if you solve the soundings problem.
www.bigdumboat.com may have an update steering you to sourceforge.org.
What OS are you using?

The dutch ones are here
in the folder zeeland are the greatest detail including depths for that area.

the also render well in open cpn

Indeed, I've got the Zeeland bundle working very well now, soundings and all. Apparently, I had by chance installed a set with less detail.
The site says the chart production is an ongoing process, and they are adding more information. The goal seems to be having a single bundle for the Netherlands.
Now, if the French would do this as well...

Thanks for the input, Cheers.
